Mukbang, a digital phenomenon marked by excess and absurdity, centers on the act of eating. While often viewed in the West as grotesque or fetishized, its Eastern origins reveal a response to loneliness and a desire for togetherness.
This work brings these contrasting readings to a performative dinner table, where intimacy, spectacle, vulnerability, and absurdity converge. Through behind-the-scenes insights and live performance, it challenges surface-level interpretations and invites a more nuanced understanding of mukbang’s cultural and emotional dimensions.
